Terms of use

Cirque is free to use. In return, please read what the snow figures can and cannot tell you, because decisions about trips and mountains are yours.

What Cirque is

Cirque is run by Methodis Ltd. In these terms, “we” and “us” mean Methodis Ltd.

Cirque estimates natural snow at ski resorts from eleven winters of historical weather. It is a planning aid for comparing places, dates and heights. It is not a forecast, a snow report or safety advice.

Limits of the model

The model knows nothing about snowmaking, grooming, wind, avalanche conditions or whether lifts are open. Checked against measured snow depth, it reads 20% to 60% shallower than reality. How it works and how it was tested are set out on the Method page.

Past winters do not guarantee future ones. Before you travel, check the resort’s own snow report and opening dates. Before you go off-piste, check the local avalanche bulletin and go with the right equipment and knowledge.

No guarantee

We work to keep Cirque accurate and available, but we provide it as it is, without any promise that it is complete, current or free of errors. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that come from relying on it, including the cost of trips, bookings or travel.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer under UK law.

Snow is modelled from eleven winters of ERA5 weather data, natural snow only. It ignores snowmaking, grooming and wind, so use it to compare places, dates and heights, not as a guarantee. Always check local avalanche bulletins before going off-piste.
